Hello Jean,

I would just continue using the modes you are comfortable with using. Would hate for you to miss important photos by experimenting with modes you are not comfortable with.

Thanks

I did finally figure out how to change my metering modes. Had a very white chair against my garden. No mode improved the white. Then, with today's overcast sky, I tried scenery. Once again, the sky did not improve. Can you suggest the best mode for me, as I will be going to Europe the 23rd...and want to have the best advantage. This will be scenery, in general.

Thanks!

Is spot metering the same as center-weighted average metering?

Jean,
What camera are you using again. I seem to recall you have the Canon S3. Correct? If so your camera supports the following metering modes:

• Evaluative
• Center-weighted average
• Spot (center or linked to focusing frame)

I believe if you go to the "spot AE point" section in the menu you can then choose the type of metering you want to use. Hope this helps.

Richard,
Wow! I am lost already! I cannot figure out how to change my camera's metering modes. I seem to leave it on "spot AE point".

...just want you to know we are trying to do your lessons :~))

Thanks!
